When we are frequently exposed to stressful situations, our breathing becomes short and shallow. This leads to a lack of oxygen in the blood and a reduced release of carbon dioxide.
Our body can no longer maintain pH (acid-base calibration). The susceptibility to physical (cancer) or mental illnesses such as depression increases.
